I was never been a huge fan of celebrating Valentines Day until I had a family. Before kids, Valentines Day looked like last-minute reservations, crowded restaurants, stressful planning, and last-minute outfit ideas.
I also never really understood the whole concept of using one day out of the year to celebrate love. Why not show someone how you care all the damn time?
But, then I had kids and then a pandemic hit so now I use every chance I can get to celebrate the shit out of life.
I don’t go all out by any means, but I do buy special shirts for the kids each year, leave them a handwritten card (that I plan on keeping for later), and pick up a few small gifts that include their favorite things. I also grab donuts early that morning and leave them to find with their gifts.
For me, Valentines Day is now a celebration of eachother as a family by being deliberate about our time together and finding sweet little gifts that remind me of the kids.
I actually look forward to Valentines Day now and make sure to decorate a little more each year and make the day special in some way.
We are also smart and we do not try to go out on Valentines Day. Ever. Not that that’s even an option this year, but it makes so much more sense to pick a different weekend for date night and keep Valentines Day as a special family night.
One of my favorite parts of Valentines Day is picking out the kid’s special shirts/outfits. So, while I was browsing for my own kids, I figured I’d share my favorites that I found.
